The American Beaver, Castor Canadensis, can reach up to 50 inches long and mate for life, typically forming colonies of six to ten members that are mostly nocturnal. They eat bark, cambium (the soft wood under the bark), and aquatic plants like cattails, using their huge, continuously growing front teeth to cut trees.
